A total of 17 artists from 14 countries and regions, especially the Chinese artists in the Asia-Pacific region ranging from the traditionally populous southeast coast area of China to other areas, have been invited to show 128 works in the exhibition themed " Farewell and Reunion ", implying " spatial farewell and cultural reunion ".

Elements such as cultural collision, integration and identity frequently appear in the works of Chinese artists, through which audiences observe the social features and natural scenery of other countries or regions with their eyes or turn back to cast an eye over Chinese local culture and traditional customs. Based on the exhibited works and narration by each participant, this event provides the audience with a perspective to deeply understand the living status of overseas Chinese artists as well as how they create their works.

In terms of its content, the exhibition adopts the mode of "1+N", that is, "1" is a work of Chinese mainland artists selected from the collection of He Xiangning Art Museum according to the theme, and "N" represents Chinese artists from countries and regions outside mainland China. We chose Zhang Xiaogang's Brothers and Sisters from the collection of He Xiangning Art Museum to lead the narrative composition of the whole exhibition - This is one of Zhang Xiaogang's representative works "Big Family" series. The natural family and blood relationship that the works focus on are the natural objects that bring together Chinese scattered around the world. Led by "Brother and Sister", the works and the autobiographies of 16 artists from 13 Asia-Pacific countries and regions are divided into three parallel units: "New Ink Painting", "Oriental and Abstract" and "Stand in the Side of the Chinese", forming a "1+3" exhibition structure.

Before the opening of the exhibition, we sorted out the literatures which describe the background under which the works were created and disclose the legendary family lore of some overseas Chinese based on interviews with each participating artist and investigation. We hope that our audiences/readers can read both images and texts, enter the world of artists and overseas Chinese from the bidirectional reading of works and documents, compare the changes of the world outlook of the Chinese people in different environments, and then think about whether the groups such as Chinese have played a unique role in shaping the modern world. And through what mechanism have these roles been played? This is a visual cultural issue that need to be resolved, a node where "we" meet "them", and an issue that how discrete subjects converge in art.
