主题阐释

创意经济的大潮下,无论是产业、创意还是政策,都成为设计行业发展的助推器。设计的万能假象,单方面夸大了“设计”的作用,滋长了设计的“专业傲慢”,并在一定程度上屏蔽了不断在扩大、变形的社会实践,而这些实践本身已经随着问题的滋长自发地做一些探索,这些还没有被设计的概念所归类的活动或许是设计思维不会僵化的根本。

“可能”意味着清晰可见,离自设的陈规也就不远了。而“不可能”才是设计要挑战的重点对象,从不可能中发现新的可能性道路是设计思维发生机制的必经之路。设计思维、活动不是成功学,“不可能”或死路一条才是实验中的常态。就当下而言,现代设计所依赖的社会运行方式出现了重大转变,科技基础在发生剧变。AlphaGo Zero的出现使敏感的人类感受到了前所未有的生存危机——它多少是处在人类已有的知识经验之外的,与设计学家还在设计伦理上纠结的智慧型物品完全不可同日而语。人工智能之所以热门,在我们看来正是它引向的是未知的、只能疲于猜测的世界,包括像设计学家所谈论的智慧型产品与人的关系问题。现在看来,在此之前作为某种技术解决方案或人类自身能力的延伸和增强的设计似乎已进入了“主流”、“确定”的“古典”时期。

既然以“不可能”为主题,就希望研讨的内容不是某种盖棺定论的理论,而注重对保持设计思维敏感性和危机意识的作用,甚至看起来不成形的想法或奇谈怪论。具体内容上,希望从以下三个方面入手:1、在新资源(科技、经济、社会)面前,作为一般性思维的设计所能够做出的反映和判断;2、在非传统设计领域所进行的设计方法论探讨;3、设计活动的外形表现为具体的案例,在理论探讨之外,我们将设置案例单元,邀请具有非主流社会意识的创作者介绍他们的案例,以启发人们从设计思维的角度关注鲜活的、与设计概念无关的社会现场。


架构

研讨会由主题发言和圆桌会议两部分组成。

(1)主题演讲,邀请八位主讲人(北欧四国各推荐一位),并请他们提前提供会议论文或发言稿,主办方将之转交给对这些话题感兴趣的四位评议人(每人负责两篇),请他们以现场发言的形式(更欢迎提前准备书面回应稿)进行回应;

(2)圆桌会议。主讲人和评议人之外,邀请与会的其他业界人士参与,议题包括但不限于主题演讲内容;

(3)案例单元,强调有近年来出现的具有某种非主流色彩的、有在地性的设计案例(以及某种有针对性的设计理论探讨)。


印刷、出版

会前印制研讨会论文、资料供与会者使用。会后整理出版正式文集,包括:1、主讲人论文;2、评议人评议;3、圆桌讨论精选;4、设计案例。研究中所可能的涉密问题另行讨论,具体出版社文集整理后再确定。

Topic Interpretation:

Under creative economy tide, ranging from industry, creativity to policy, all have become the booster of the development of the design industry. The illusion of design unilaterally exaggerates the role of "design" which develops the "arrogance" of the design. To a certain extent, it blocks the constantly expanding and the deformation of social practice which have already had some exploration based on their own problems. Maybe, these unclassified activities are the origin of the creative designs which would not be rigid.

“Possibilities” really mean something that is not far from the previously set reality. But “Impossibilities” are the main studying subjects during the design. Finding the paths from the impossibilities is the only way for design thinking mechanism. Design thinking or activities is not success learning. “Impossibilities” or “Dead end” is the normal state of the experiment. According to the present situation, there has been a major shift in the way society operates on which modern design depends, and the foundations of technology are changing dramatically. The emergence of AlphaGo Zero makes sensitive human beings think of unprecedented existential crisis – it is existing outside of their existed knowledge which has totally differences from the intellectual products that the designers still struggle on the ethics issues. The reasons why AI is so popular, in our eyes, lie in that it leads to an unknown, speculative world, including the question of the relationship between intelligent products and people that designers talk about. For now, the designs which have been used as a solution for some technologies or enhancement and extension of human capacity has entered the "mainstream", "definitive" and "classical" period.

Since we set the “impossibilities” as the theme, we are hoping the research content is not a kind of conclusive theories, which should focuses on the function of maintaining the sensitivity of design thinking and crisis awareness instead and even the seemingly shapeless thoughts or weird remarks. In terms of specific content, I hope to start from the following three aspects: 1. In front of new resources (science and technology, economy and society), the reflection and judgment can be made by the design of general thinking; 2. Research will be made on design methodology in the field of non-traditional design; 3. The appearance of the design activity would be shown as a specific case. In addition to the theoretical discussion, we will set up case units and invite creators with non-mainstream social awareness to introduce their cases, so as to inspire people to pay attention to the vivid social scene that has nothing to do with the design concept from the perspective of design thinking.


Architecture

The seminar includes two parts: keynote speech and round table meeting.

In terms of keynote speech:

eight speakers (The four Nordic countries will recommend a person respectively) will be invited and ask them to provide conference speeches in advance. The organizers will pass these speeches to four commenters (each one is responsible for two speeches) and ask them to respond to these speeches in the form of a live speech (a prepared written response to these speeches in advance will be welcomed.).

In terms of round table meeting:

asides from host and commenters, other people from other fields will be invited. The discussed topics include but are not limited to the keynote speech content.

For the case part, some non-mainstream local designs will be emphasized (includes some specific pointed design theories.).

Printing & Publishing

Before seminar, the seminar essays and related information should be printed in advance for the conventioneers’ use. After the seminar, a formal anthology will be printed including: 1. Host’s essays; 2. Commenters’ reviews; 3. Round table discussion selection; 4. Design cases. The possible confidentiality related issues in the study will be discussed separately.
